Day 3: Metro with the Ferd

Today my good friend Fred Chang took the train up from Taichung and met with me in Shilin for some lunch before touring various parts of Taipei along the Metro Rapid Transit (MRT) rail lines.

Taipei’s MRT is extremely convenient when it comes to getting around Taipei, connecting destinations in the north like Beitou and Tamsui to the city center as well as the municipal airport, Songshan Airport. Here’s a map of the current rail system.

So we grabbed a quick lunch at a Kaiten sushi restaurant in the neighborhood I’m staying in, and then got right on the MRT to Taipei Main Station to browse the Zhongshan Underground Mall, Taipei Main Station TRA (standard rail) Terminal, and the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store.

It was raining all day, again, so walking around underground was nice. By nightfall things cleared up a bit so we managed to visit the famous Shilin Night Market for some night snacks.
